Message Sorry if this is a noobish question, but I have been wondering this a bit more lately. It seems the highest numbers I've seen on straight pump gas are within the 500-550rwhp range. A friend of mine made ~550whp on a civic with a turbo'd K series, without a good tune (a 4 cylinder!), and I hear of RB's/other engines making well over 6 (even above 700) on pump gas.

Just recently another friend looked at me like I was crazy when I told him the Z's don't really make much more than 550 on pump gas, and frankly I didn't have a good reason as to why, so here I am! So... what gives? Are tuners just that conservative or is there something about the VG that makes it that prone to detonation?
